These are great to use for any regular basting needs, but I bought these in different colors to use with kids so they could 'paint' frosting onto cookies to decorate. They are small enough for toddler hands and the 'bristles' are thin but densely enough packed to give good coverage. Definitely worth it!

I primarily use silicone basting brushes to spread a scant amount of fat (usually olive oil) at the bottom of the skillet or pot at the beginning of making a dish, especially omelets. (Pour oil into mug, keep brush in mug to oil it for pan. This way you don't use as much fat as pouring it directly in the pan and you don't have the oil spread or fumes of using a spray oil like Pam.) I have several so I can throw them in the dishwasher whenever they are dirty. I store them in a crock with the wooden spoons and silicone spatulas. The handle on this item is very short. Too short to keep it in the crock with the other cooking utensils. It does the job of spreading oil fine. But the short handle makes it unlikely for me to repurchase.
