So Alton Brown recommended one of these during his apple pie episode on Food Network. At first I was kind of skeptical, then even more so when it showed up and was a lot cuter then I thought. Once I convinced myself to try it, it worked great. The crust on pie didn't form one of those huge hollow pie-domes that you so often see. Why? Because the pie bird vents out all the air that hold the crust up while it baked.
