Not a good item
Kathlyn Storey

When I bought this item for $7.39 two weeks ago, including super saver and the 4 for 3 promotion, there were six reviews posted (which I did not read until after purchasing), and most of them were not good, averaging the two stars that I have given. It really doesn't deserve to carry the Kitchen Aid name because I have seen better basters in dollar stores. This is information from the label: (1) apply marinades, seafood, poultry & roasts; (2) glazes pastry; (3) dishwasher safe; (4) one year hassle-free replacement and lifetime limited warranty; (5) toll free phone number and website provided. What the label does not tell you, and what the earlier reviews did, is that this baster cannot be used on an item that has been cooking in the oven, i.e., a turkey, without having the bristles melt. I can tell by looking at the shiny, thin, cheap bristles that they will not stand up to any oven heat at all. I'm running it through the dishwasher now and will update if it falls apart. Here are the specifics of the warranty: it is guaranteed to be free from defects in material and workmanship, with both a one year and limited lifetime warranty. For one year from date of purchase under normal use and care, Kitchen Aid will replace the product free of charge. From year two through the life of the product, any piece found to be defective under conditions of normal use and care will be repaired at no charge, or replaced with the same item or an item of equal or better value. You will have to mail the item back postage paid.In any case, from what I read previously from Amazon reviewers who noted the bristles melted or just disintegrated, I intend to use this baster only on the front end of cooking, when the sauce and item to be cooked are cold. I explained this to my husband who does the barbecuing. Be sure to retain your label, which states the warranty, for future reference. I'm afraid I'm going to need it if my husband forgets.
